What Does your ministry do?
I am a Catechist and teach two classes each year. I have started with teaching the first grade level. My first class is now moving into 6th grade and my second class is now moving into 4th grade. I move up each year with the class. My children are in these classes as well. I am also very involved with the planning and activities of Summer Son Fun.
What drew you to this ministry?
I wanted to be actively involved in my children’s religious education and am proud to be able to have a positive impact on the other children in the class and to be able to assist my Church my offering my time and home for this important ministry.
How long have you been with Saints Peter and Paul?
I joined Saints Peter and Paul about 20 years ago.
What special talents did you have that might enhance your skill in this ministry?
I enjoy working with children. I’ve been involved with the Bible school at my Mother’s church and thought that I could offer my knowledge and experience to our church. My Mother’s church holds Bible school in the evenings and that is why I was involved with it, because I work some of the days of the week. Our church held Bible school in the mornings, which wasn’t convenient for me but after a few years I decided to take vacation time during this week so I could participate and offer my ideas and to hopefully help grow our bible school into something more.
What do you gain from this ministry?
I gain the enjoyment of participating and feeling involved with my community.
What would you say to a parishioner if they wanted to volunteer, that might not consider this ministry except for your recommendation?
I would say that it is well worth getting involved. Even if it seems as though you don’t have the time to get involved, you do. We all make the time for what we want to do so this is no exception. It’s a great way to be a positive role model to your children and to the other children in our community.
What other ministries have you been involved with and why?
My children are both altar servers. It is a responsibility of which I need to maintain and that adds another item to our long list of things to do. Both of my children enjoy this ministry and feel good about being able to do something positive with their time. It’s hard for children to find ways to give back and as parents we need to help them with that. It takes some time and effort, but in the end, everyone wins.
Why do you volunteer?
It makes me feel good and I like to be involved. The Faith Formation team at our Church is awesome. I thoroughly enjoy working closely with Elaine, Robin, Suzanne, and Beth.
